TSWS Picnic
The TSWS Board is planning a TSWS Picnic! This will be held on Sunday evening, May 26, 2019. Please sign up through email now, or at our first rehearsal. We need an accurate count to know how much entree to provide.Tentative plans include:
- Family potluck picnic. The board will provide sandwiches (shredded prime rib and buns). You will need to bring your own table service, beverage, and dish to pass. And your family, of course!
- Move large percussion and equipment to the band shelter
- Clean all chairs and stands (materials will be provided)
- Nominations for Board and a short meeting
As outgoing president Sally Stulken said last fall, this will be a great time for us to come together to unload the equipment vehicles, clean the music stands and chairs, share some food, and renew our musical friendships.

Please view Brian Hughes, Conductor and Founder of the Tri-State Wind Symphony who was interviewed on this month's Mediacom Business Leaders!
Closed Rehearsal Policy
As announced, the Board reminds all that rehearsals are closed except to performing members. We appreciate all members of the TSWS. However, the Board has received several complaints and has come to the decision that rehearsals will be closed, and will allow only performing musicians. We do value all players, but there are liability issues in having non-performers in the building. There will be no exceptions. Again, we value all of our musicians, but we stand firm in this decision.
Concert and Recruitment Posters
This year, posters and bookmarks will be available at rehearsals, so you can take some and hang them up wherever you go! Band is more fun when there are more players, so take a few recruitment posters and hand them to all your instrument-playing friends.
Concert posters will also be available. Take them to church, the grocery store, City Hall, anywhere you go to let our audience know where and when our concerts will be. You may choose to pick up bookmarks with the concert schedule, too. Blue ones will be available at rehearsals.
If you're anxious to get them and don't want to wait, you can download PDFs of the 2019 recruitment and concert schedule posters here and print them yourself. You may also download and print concert schedule bookmarks here.
Board Openings:
All of the positions are filled with the exception of the Vice President position. We are also looking for a Grant Writer. We really need a good grant writer, as grants are available and need applying now. If you are interested in any of these positions, please send a letter or email of application. If you know someone (not required to be a band member; may be a person who appreciates live music) who may be interested, please pass this information along. Thank you!
25th Season
2019 is the 25th anniversary season of the Tri-State Wind Symphony! We have some exciting things planned, but if you have ideas about how to mark this special occasion, please share.
To this end, we would like to have the TSWS scrapbook filled with memories. If you have and can share photocopies of newspaper articles, programs, advertisements, photos, or any other memorabilia, we would appreciate receiving copies to add to the scrapbook. Also, we are looking for an avid scrapbooker to take over the TSWS history project. The books are already made and need to have any items received added.

Concert set-up people, please show up at 6pm for concert set-up! We need help with unloading percussion, setting up chairs and stands, and sound system set-up. Thank you for your invaluable assistance!
Do your decent person thing for the day and plan to stay late to help put away afterwards. Many hands make light work! Everybody should at least be putting away their own. Percussion will need help loading into the vehicles after the concert.
Music sorters are needed after concerts, and for final put-away at the end of July. Can you volunteer? Talk to Kate Arnold or email her at katearnold521@gmail.com Thank you.
Remind your friends and family about the concert, and suggest they come early and bring a picnic!
TSWS rehearsals begin on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm. They run until about 9:00 pm. Rehearsals are now held at the Masonic Temple at 1155 Locust (corner of 12th and Locust) in Dubuque. Enter the Masonic Temple on the 12th Street side. The Ballroom is downstairs.
